Good but...
It did not come with a remote or HDMI cable as pictured. Player works well with no issues.

Great machine
Alrightt I bought this at Walmart way back in 2009 or 2010 I really can't remember. I bought this for my bedroom and have used it a lot and I mean a lot. And now it's 2014 and this player works. It as never once gave out on me or stopped working. The only problem now is in blu rays and DVD it pauses in the middle of watching a movie for like 5 seconds then starts playing but it only does this once in a while. I really recommend this to anyone. But if your looking to also watch YouTube Hulu or Netflix with this you can't this player is only for watching DVDs and blu rays

I had two of these. Neither one worked correctly.
I purchased one, then when when I was ready to throw it against the wall, my brother-in-law told me a friend of his had a blue ray player he was getting rid of. Unfortunately, the exact same model! If I had an enemy, I would buy him one of these! They were both so frustrating! Both of them, had a tray that wouldn't open after a couple of months. You have to pull it out and push it in. They both scratched up DVDs sometimes. They were both glitchy, sometimes not playing, sometimes with flickers, or very slow to load the dvd menu. The remote (I only had a remote for the first one) didn't work right either. Only half of the buttons did anything. Why did Magnavox out their name on this? I ended up throwing both of them away after a few months.

Just keep looking
As of October 2011 (the date of this review) if you're in the market for a blu-ray player and you're looking at this one, just keep looking.I bought this close to 2 years ago as my first blu ray player. At the time, I was excited to have a high def player with an SD card slot. After a little bit of use, I realized how disappointing this item is and I'm now looking to replace it.For starters, the disc loading is extremely slow. At first, I figured this was common with all blu rays, but after comparing to some other players, I know now I don't have to wait this long. Secondly, we've had issues with this when it plays regular DVD's. A box in the corner of the TV will lag behind, creating a very annoying picture. Rather than put up with this, we've started watching DVD's in the xbox. Finally, no internet capibilities. Even if you don't think you'll use BD live, you'd still want internet to get firmware updates from the manufacturer. It's possible Magnavox has improved their players, but I wouldn't know since I can't update my player. The pros for this unit would be that it plays blu ray and the picture looks good.Even if you're just looking for a basic blu ray player, it's not hard to find something better than this one.

This equipment is in good condition.
This equipment is in good condition and has an excellent image quality, but has no HDMI connector. The physical conditions make it look like new and the SD memory is a very interesting application

Blue Ray DVD player
Great price for the player, but the control to box is very slow to react and you have to be exactly in a direct line to the signal from the remote to the box or it doesn't work at all. Will probably buy a better quality one in the future. ;)

Can't beat it for the $$$
I bought this as an extra Blu-ray player for other rooms in the house. I've had a Sony PS3 hooked up to my Samsung 52" 240 Hz LCD in the living room. I connected this player to the same TV when I first got it and it's definitely top notch as far as picture quality. OK...it does load slower than the PS3 and it lacks some extra features on more expensive players, but for the $78 I paid, you can't beat it! On extra long movies (over 2 hrs. or so) you do get that momentary pause when it changes layers on the disc, but that's the only fault I've been able to detect. This may possibly be addressed with a firmware update in the near future. It DOES show the disc info on the screen when you press "display" on the remote.I've played a bunch of new blu-ray releases that were rented from Netflix without a hitch! Some other players constantlyneed firmware updates just to play the newest blu-ray discs. Highly recommended!

WORST OPTION EVER!
Yes, this player was very cheap at the time I purchased it. It was $78.00 new. In my opinion, it would have been worth putting up 20 or 30 dollars more and getting one that has an ethernet port, and one that has better compatibility for playback of DVD +/- R and RW. This player claims to be compatible with these discs, but it is not. It really is hit or miss. Some will play, some won't. I did do the firmware update on this player hoping it would help with the disc incompatibility, but it didn't. It seemed to make it a tad bit faster after the update when it came to loading, but that's about it. Figuring no future update would help this player be more compatible with all discs, I decided to sell this player complete in box at the flea market, and got $45.00 for it. I paid about $85.00 with tax for this, so lost about $40.00, which covered the use of this player for the 2 years it was used. I used the money and had to pay a huge difference extra, but I got the Samsung BD-D6700 in its place. Big difference. All of these Magnavox players are very slow loading, disc incompatible with +/- R discs, and not fun to update. This particular model is very stripped down and DOES NOT EVEN HAVE A COUNTER LED DISPLAY ON THE UNIT! The only positive feature on this model is that it does have component video, along with Hdmi. The new ones with wifi have the same issues as well, and their wifi built in sucks. Stay away from these magnavox ones. They are cheap for a reason. Maybe the philips ones are better than these, but I prefer to get Sony and Samsung players now.
